Preparation for Departure

Hi there.  Welcome to our blog!  Pat and I are setting out on a worldwide adventure and have decided that you can come along by following this blog.  First of all, let me show you around a bit since I spent an inordinate amount of time customizing this blog...  A couple features make it really easy to see where we actually are.  First, you can click the location beside 'Where are we now?' right below the title of each blog entry to see where we are.  Second, you can click the link 'View it on google maps' and this will bring you to a customized google map where we will (hopefully) be able to mark all of our stops along the way.  Finally, we will also try to post lots of pictures on our blog.  For example, it might look something like this:

So what are we doing anyway?  Well, we decided that now that we're finished school and unemployed, we may as well be unemployed abroad and see some new sights!  Our general plan is to head to Europe, travel around Eastern Europe for a month or so, and then find a summer job somewhere.  Where, you ask?  Well, we have a UK work visa and hopefully soon also German and French working visas.  After we get some great jobs and make a lot of money, we'll head to India and, oh, some other parts of Asia too.  And that's about as far as our plans go.  But you'll stay updated with this handy blog!  We plan to be abroad for about one year.  We are getting very excited...

Where are we going first?  Glad you asked.  We will be arriving in Florence, Italy on March 23, 2012!  Here is what it will look like:

I also figured out how to put google maps right into the blog (you can zoom in and out and drag the map with your cursor and everything!).  Ok, I admit I went a bit overboard with the google map hyperlinks, but you have to admit, it's pretty cool!
