London Times

We've been here in London for a little while now, long enough to notice a few trends.  Here are a few of them.

Good Things About London:
1. You can find good food from all over the world to have for dinner.
2. Take the amount of diversity in Canada and multiply it by 10 and that's about the diversity there is in London (which explains 1.).
3. Free museums!  So far we've been to the Museum of Natural History and the British Museum.  Next week we're going to try hit up the Huntarian Museum - like the Natural History museum but with humans!  It's set up through the College of Surgeons.
4. It's relatively flat, making biking more fun and less work.
5. The London Underground makes getting around easy when biking isn't.

Not So Good Things About London:
1. All the produce in grocery stores is wrapped in plastic.
2. The green space in the city is definitely limited to parks.  The parks are great!  But you won't find many green boulevards or lawns wandering around the neighbourhoods.
3. The sun seems to have found other places to be other than in London this summer.
4. We miss Vancouver sushi!
5. You have to share the London Underground with about 3,000,000 other people every day.

Unfortunately we also haven't been able to start work quite yet because the company we're working with has also hired 2500 other people for the Olympic work and so it's been a bit of a gong show getting all the right paperwork done and trying to schedule shifts.  While that's been a bit frustrating, we are in London after all, and so we've been having a pretty good time.  And we have received our schedule starting July 15 and we'll soon start to make ourselves useful again.

We've posted a few random pictures below, enjoy!

The London Eye.  No, we didn't take a ride and yes, the weather
has really been like that lately.
Picadilly Circus.  Why circus?  Who knows but it might have to do
with the number of people in this intersection at any given time.
All the flags are hung for the summer Olympics.
Here Pat is trying to break into Buckingham Palace.
No success. This time.
British Parliament. Big Ben is the bell in the tower.
I can't remember what this is.  But it's pretty!
My new bike!
And it's a Triumph - just like my Dad's!
Pat rides in the French style with his new Peugeot.
Portobello Road Market.
Enjoying fresh Greek salad...
And strawberries!
Batmobile arrives in Trafalgar Square.  So much cooler than a bunch
of pigeons.
We found Sir Darwin at the Museum of Natural
History. This is me, in awe. We also got to see part of his
original collection while he was aboard the H.M.S Beagle.
Fellow Vancouverite (now Londoner) Christine and I at Canada Day
celebrations in Trafalgar Square.
And we caught up with Gordon Campbell.
Happy Canada Day!
